"Amazing TV" 2010-07-29

I purchased this tv about a month ago. I had a 60 inch SXRD Sony LCD projection tv before this. I am extremely impressed by this LG. I researched alot of different products before making this purchase and found this was the best value for all of the features offered. First of all it has a matte finish with absolutely no glare at all. I have it in a very bright room with 2 french doors right beside of it and there are no reflections whatsoever. I did think the black levels may have been just a touch better on the Samsung I was looking at with the glass/shiny screen but the black levels on this one are extremely good. Not quite the same as an LED though. If I wanted to spend at lease five hundred dollars more I would have went with the LED but it just wasn't in my budget at this time. I have a PS3, Xbox360, and my PC all hooked up to this tv and they all look amazing. The Blu ray for Avatar is jaw dropping. And one other thing I wanted to mention for people that have seen "motion" on alot of the Samsung tv's.....This one has it too. It is called Tru Motion and it has different settings that you can adjust to your liking. Not all Samsungs have a setting for this(it is automatically on). I personally like the motion on shows like Lost and on Blu ray movies. It Makes films like Avatar look 3D almost. If you do not like it you can simply turn it off. A friend of mine has the Samsung 7000 series Plasma 3D and you cannot adjust the motion whatsoever. At least with the LG you can turn it off if you don't like it. I do have the wired connection to the internet hooked up and it works well. The apps are pretty standard with Netflix and several others but I really don't go to them very often. It is nice to have in case you want to rent HD movies or stream Netflix. So pretty much if you are looking for a 55inch LCD this one is DEFINITELY one to consider. The contrast ratio,refresh rate of 240hz,and overall picture quality is probably the very best you can get in the LCD tv's. If you want anything better and want to spend hundreds more then go with the LED but for me this one is a bargain for all the features you get. Check out LG's website for all the details!

I've bought this LG LD650 TV about three weeks. It functions well as I read previous comments on Amazon! So far so good! the image quality is very clear when I watch the Avatar blue ray HD movie. Speakers are just acceptable. I didn't test the wireless function, but I have made a order of LG wireless adaptor. In sum, nice quality and reasonable price.

I have received my new tv (LG55LD650) yesterday to find out the part ("stand body") for assembling the stand to the screen is missing. I contacted LG customer service to learn it will take 7 to 10 business days to ship the part.
I was aware of the risk involved in buying a large item without seeing it first hand but the price was competitive. It is not Amazon's fault. Rather, it is LG factory's lax inspection and quality control system. I will think twice before I buy a high value LG item online. Something to think about if you wish to avoid a run around.

So first off, I'm not very Tech savvy anymore. I was very current and on top of the tech world around the Windows 98 era. Anyway, I didn't know anything about many of the new features or specs when I started shopping for a new TV. Over about a month, I looked at about 1000 spec sheets and started at least seeing what the price tag:spec sheet correlations were. I have another LG, a 32" that I got for a very decent price and was very pleased with the quality and the LG's seem to be a little cheaper than the Samsungs and Sonys with similar specs. Long story short, I pulled the trigger on this guy mainly because I was tired of shopping and comparing and Amazon had it on sale. That being said, I am extremely happy with it so far. I've had it for about a month now and have no regret. The picture was the most important thing for me since I don't know much about anything else and it is fantastic in HD. I'm on DirectTV and the HD channels are amazing on this thing. Beware though that many of the non-HD channels look like crap. I don't think that is specific for this TV though and is a fact for most big screens. So if you don't have alot of HD programming, I would reconsider a 55" HDTV. All the HD stuff looks great though and Blu-Ray will blow your socks off. We watch it in a fairly dim room, but even with alot of lights on there is little to no glare on the screen, which I really like. Now as to the other stuff, the 240 Hz "Tru Motion" feature is really cool for live sports but makes movies and TV shows look jittery. Hard to explain, but it just doesn't look right. Easy to turn off and on though so no big deal to me. I just turn it on for sports. The sound is good in my opinion, but I am considering adding a speaker bar for some bass, mainly for movies. The set puts out good sound and gets really loud (we watch at 30-40 out of 100 most of the time) but doesn't have a lot of bass. Again, I think that is true for most of the flat panels. I don't use the connectivity on the TV because I use my Blu-Ray player for that, but it's an LG as well and looks to have all the same features as the TV. Netflix is a poor investment because the streaming content is not HD and doesn't look very good. Vudu looks great though and is easy to use.
All in all, I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who has alot of HD programming.

I purchased this small portable, White tv for my kitchen to replace an under the counter tv/cd/dvd unit (I can't figure out if this new unit is wall mountable). Anyway, it looks great on the counter. Set-up was easy and straight forward. Since my area broadcasts in digital I had to have my cable company come out and install a new cable outlet so I could connect this digital-ready tv, that was less than $30 (I have already wasted too much money & time fooling around with converter boxes). I only watch local tv news in the kitchen while getting ready for work and then again while cooking dinner, so I haven't used the tv's features, but I was surprised when I received the HD channel. The tv sound and picture have been great for what I use it for. After looking for a long while to replace my old unit, I was happy to find this item priced where it was, because many others were higher priced. My use for it is limited, so I didn't want an expensive & complicated unit. DVD, was also a nice add on in this price range!!

After reading every review here, I ordered this white tv for my kitchen. I like everything about the tv but the sound quality. As mentioned by others-there are times when the sound is almost nonexistent unless you are in hearing distance. Other times, it's fne. Set up was so easy. Take it out of the box, hook it to my cable and I'm in business. There is a warm-up delay of about 10 seconds or so. Usually get my morning beverage while it's waking up :). Love the widescreen and the clarity of the picture. I also like that you get to choose the picture view you want.
Oddly, the DVD sound is quite loud compared to the tv side. It also does a good job. It's a nice addition. So, my only complaint is the sound. If you are looking for a small addition for any room in the house--this is it. Enjoy!

Good TV initially. I ordered this to watch tv when using my treadmill--I was less concerned about features. After a few uses I realized that turning it on was not a simple press and release of the power button. I began to press and hold the button, then add some "I hope it works" wishes. More and more I just resorted to the manual power button. But finally even that gave out. Eighty dollars ($80) later (shipping back to CA for repair) I'm waiting for the return of my workout buddy. I'm annoyed, but hopeful that our relationship will be even better than before...???

Stay away from Viewsonic! Purchased the TV from Amazon in April 2010; it stopped working in early June. Faced with delaying tactics from Viewsonic when attempting to have it repaired. The set dieplays the two bird display for a few seconds, then goes black. Attempts to remedy via Viewsonic's web site/chat were unsuccessful. Having difficulty with Viewsonic authorizing repair for the set. For the short period that it operated, it seemed fine. It is dark and silent now. Stay away from Viewsonic!

I received my ViewSonic on 6-7-10> Started to Set it up, The next morning when I went to turn it on it didn't turn on just set there and flash a picture of three birds off and on. I couldn't even turn it off only way to stop it was to unplug it/ I called VtewSonic customer support hoping that there was a reset button. The reply was that my problem was a firmware problem and the set would have to go to the ware house to be taken fixed. They sent me the paperwork to return it (at my expense!). The set was recieved on 6-16-10 at the warehouse and today is 7-2-10 and I haven't recieved anthing from them, I have emailed them with no response. Ask me if I ever will buy ViewSonic again?

This monitor should come with a warning label "Do Not Use SRS Audio" ... It will jack the firmware of the monitor and you will be stuck with power cycles over and over, rendering the tv/monitor completely useless. No amount of reset attempts will fix it. If I could do anything to take back turning that feature on I would. I loved this monitor when I bought it, waited for it while it was sold out, used it for gaming and a couple movies, and all of it looked amazing. I was shocked, pissed, and angry when I read two other reviews that had this warning and of course it was only after mine had suffered the same fate.

"Sharp picture, so -so sound" 2010-06-30

Replaced my old CRT TV with this after reading reviews. I have a directv non HD receiver, and used the S-video hookup. Even with the non HD, the picture is fine, sharper than my old set. It is used in the bedroom. I did tweak the colors, etc. rather than keep it at factory settings. Only complaint, if you could call it that, is that I find the sound rather tinny. The setup was easy, the instructions pretty clear; I did call Vizio with a question and had a rep within 3 minutes who was pleasant, easy to understand, and answered my question. As for their internet support, I had sent this question TWICE and it was never answered or even acknowledged that they received it. Not sure what the problem is there. Overall, I am very happy with the set.

I'm using this as the display for a HTPC. I am using this particular panel because the old cabinet that I was fitting it in was designed for a standard CRT TV and this was the largest size widescreen display that I could fit.
The display is has great color, brightness and saturation, but the black levels are a bit too high. However, this is not a very expensive product and so one cannot expect the best performance. It works great as a HTPC display and is pretty much the only decent display I could find thats support 1080p in this HDTV size range.
I had video striping issues when connecting it using a HDMI cable, but I can't be sure if it was the display or the video adapter (NVIDIA ION) on the PC. However, with DVI everything is working great.
The bezel is a bit funky, sorta retro with the square edges and large size. Although the bezel color is supposed to be some kind of dark brown it looks very black to me, which is actually preferable (dark brown wouldn't really fit well with my other all black AV system components).
Other than the HDMI issue that I experienced, this product has been rock solid and properly works with display turn-off based on the computer using the DVI cable. I have friends that have had issues with sleep working properly when connecting other HDTV brands up to a PC.
On this model when the display is on, the VISIO logo right below the display even lights up! At first I thought this would be distracting, but after a few days I don't even notice it. Also, it glows amber when the display is in sleep mode which is great as an indicator that it is on but sleeping.
It is a shame that Amazon stopped selling this product, but I was one of the lucky ones that managed to get one of these right before they stopped selling it. I guess VIZIO is coming out with new products, but the price that I paid for this particular model was unbeatable.

I agree with some of the critical reviews in that I have noticed the contrast levels surge up and down a bit, especially in low light scenes. The black levels are livable but I do find that the picture quality is quite good for such a low cost item. This unit, once un-boxed, does have the look and feel of a low cost item but it really pulls through fairly well.

I bought this for my bedroom/office. The size is perfect and what a good looking tv. The picture is terrific. The black levels are particularly impressive. Based on my other TV, I thought that perhaps there could have been a few more picture controls but I don't seem to need them. The sound is quite good for a TV this size.
I was expecting and would have been satisfied with a lot less. Instead, I have a really neat TV.

I purchased the VIZIO VM230XVT 23-Inch XVT-Series 1080p LED LCD HDTV to replace an older set in my den (man cave). The picture looked so good I hooked my computer up to it as well. Shortly after that came the Xbox 360. Long-story-short this was an excellent addition to what became a media center. Two things though, the remote works better at a distance than 2 feet away and the sound was a little weak. You will need to turn up the bass so it sounds better. I'm probably going to spring for a sound bar, the T.V. is worth it. I've had good luck with Vizio's in general - 47 inch in the livingroom, 42 in the bedroom. All work well. The LED - LCD is by far the best picture, spend the extra cash.

Perfect picture, excellent sound. Incredibly light and thin. If your video card supports high definition, then this doubles as an excellent computer monitor. I hooked it up to my Macbook aluminum (about 2 years old) and I had 23" of full 1080p glory. Perfect for multitasking or watching hulu. My favorite feature is that it can pause live TV if you plug a flash drive in the back. This timeshift feature works flawlessly if you have a fast flash drive. Not just any flash drive can be used with this; look at the transfer rate and find the fastest one you can. If you have a slow flash drive, playback will stutter. I did not have the problem that some other reviewers were having with the controls lighting up constantly on their own. My single complaint is that if a dvd player doesn't take up the whole screen, you'd think that you can press "Auto" for screen-fitting, and it'll expand, right? Not so. It will simply stretch it out, ignore the aspect ratio, and leave unnecessary black bars on the top and bottom. There should be a feature to make a picture take up as much of the screen as permitted by the aspect ratio. This TV lacks this feature. However, this does not matter with HD programming because it takes up the whole screen anyway.

This is my first VISIO product so I didn't know what to expect. The picture is ok, compared to my Samsung which I consider wonderful. The remote just plain sucks. I measured and it does not work beyond 9 feet with new batteries. I couldn't believe it, so I changed batteries from the original just after unboxing it...and then changed again with batteries that I just purchased. I might as well get up and touch the cool interactive buttons. It is a skinny unit that fits nicely under my kitchen cupboards, and fortunately hides the ugly power adapter that takes 2 outlets.

What I like about this TV is the info screen, lots of info with next program. Can also show all channels at a glance with what is playing on each - a cool little feature. Very light, great picture sound, and lots of extras like usb for photos/music, easy access buttons on front to turn off - hard to see - which is what you want. Perfect for price.
Only thing missing is built in interent and wireless nic, lol.
