I just bought this 399 from a major retailer beginning with W and ending in mart. My first one, like other reviewers, wouldn't recognize the remote. It was manufactured in Sept. 2009. I exchanged it, got one manufactured in Oct. 2009 and it works just fine. Can't beat it for the money, but I certainly understand the frustration of others who have had the remote issue. All I can say is try another.

This is my first medium-plus-sized flat-screen TV purchase (unlike my early-adopter friends, who rushed to spend $4+ figures on the first-generation 720p plasma flat-screens a few years ago, I was content to wait patiently until 1080p became available in the mid-3 figure price range, which is now), and overall I have to say I'm pretty satisfied.
As a first-time LCD-TV buyer, I can say little about how the picture quality stacks up against other new LCDs (but friends who know better than I tell me it's "decent", if not spectacular); but it is, of course, a big jump up from the CRT I had been watching prior (and for which I paid about the same amount, 15 years ago!).
So far, after a couple months of use, I can say:
PROs: excellent value for money, decent build quality (no "dead" pixels I can see, which I was worried there might be), a great step up from a CRT TV (if you're one of the few people left doing that), pretty good ATSC reception (pulls in some pretty weak TV channels my ATSC converter box generally didn't), good connectivity options (very happy with the 3xHDMI and 2xComponent inputs, but the single Composite video input necessitated a composite input switchbox, which was cheap to add).
CONs: No-frills exterior (any finish you like, so long as it's gloss-black plastic), power-on takes a couple of seconds (or maybe, all flat-sceen TVs do?) during which TV briefly makes some odd popping and clicking noises (not loudly, but in a quiet room you do notice), channel memory occasionally "forgets" settings (so that channels you wanted skipped, unskip themselves from time to time), IR remote sensor tucked into lower RH corner (so if TV is set in a cabinet, remote is blocked from the entire RH side of the room - unlike TVs with center-placed IR sensors, which can pick up remote commands so long as you can still see the screen), remote codes not well covered by aftermarket remotes (you're fine if you use a "learning" aftermarket remote control, but it would have been nice if this brand was popular enough for aftermarket remotes to have its control codes as presets).
Overall, if this is not a great TV, it's not a bad one at all; and for someone (like myself) finally upgrading from that old CRT, you really can't beat it's value-for-dollar price at this point (so far as I can tell). So far, I'm a pretty satisfied customer; and odds are if buyers don't expect too much from this TV, I would think most people would be as well.

Don't waste your time with this TV. I bought it because the price was too good to pass up for a 1080p 32" HDTV, but I was sorely disappointed when I plugged it in. Maybe I got a lemon, but it the picture was busted. There was an image, but it was like you were looking through thermal imaging goggles, except that everything was blue and green. It's hard to describe, but just know that it was unwatchable. Thinking the problem may be my receiver, I tried another receiver and my Xbox, all with the same crazy picture.
Needless to say, I returned this the same day I got it. Don't waste your time.

I was looking for a TV that I could fit within my budget, and boy was I surprised when I found this one.
Although I was worried about earlier reviews, my TV came in a perfect condition, the box looked completely unharmed, and I have not had any problems with the television yet. It displays in 1080p like a champ, there's no refreshing audio buffer (which sometimes cuts out sound on cheaper HDTV's, and overall, it's great.

"32EX400 thoughts + calibration" 2010-08-08

Well, I picked up this set from another retailer when it was on special for $494 + tax a couple of months back. It is a really really nice set if you are looking for a value 32" HDTV that has 1080p and 4 HDMI ports. Those were the 2 main points that made me go with this set. This set has great picture quality, has tremendously good black levels for an LCD set, has tons of customization options.
2 negatives about this set that make me wish I could have picked up a different set for similar price are:
1. It has really really bad viewing angles compared to an older LG 32" 720p model I had. I mean this set really really needs you to be viewing it from center on or it loses a lot of it's brightness. Both the vertical and horizontal viewing angles are worse than my previous LG 32lh20 model.
2. I wish this set had a swivel base like my previous LG model had OR like the EX500 set has. I would have purchased the KDL-32EX500 if it wasn't an extra $120 or so. That model has a swivel base which is great, seeing how the 32EX400 has such terrible viewing angles.
These settings work great for my 32EX400 while using HDMI for Cable HD or Blu-Ray and even for PC connection through VGA (I bet it would work through HDMI too). The viewing environment is in a dark room with a very dim light (behind the TV) to reduce eyestrain and viewing distance of 4-5 feet.
I calibrated the picture, brightness, color, and sharpness for my 32EX400 using the AVS HD 709 disc.

This is my first big-item order from Amazon and the Fedex guy brought it up to my apartment door, instead of the usual main entrance quick drop-off. I suppose it was because Amazon did not pack the TV into their standard packing boxes and it'd be a different kind of "steal" if left at my apartment building entrance.
Setting up wasn't that difficult despite confusing instructions from the manual. Two points to note:
1. Have a long-stemmed Philips screwdriver. I had to get a 4-inch stem from the hardware store. Thankfully it was just down the street.
2. You can pretty much set up without the manual because there is only one way to fix the TV base (which consists of the flat base and the "trunk"). Just match the distance between the screw holes for both parts.
The only grouse I have is one missing spongy-rubber pad. There're supposed to be 8 but I had only 7.
Auto-tuning was a breeze, after which you can customize sound/picture settings to your preferences. I must say, the "clear voice" option is real sweet. So good luck and enjoy your purchase. As with all other electric appliances, they aren't built to last indefinitely anyway as manufacturers need the revenue. I'll be happy if it lasts me 5 years.

I have been waiting patiently for a few years now to make the switch from my 480i Toshiba 32" CRT to an HDTV. Thanks to a decent tax return I was finally able to join the Hi Def club. I live in a small apartment and already had a nice entertainment center which housed my aging Toshiba so I chose to stay with the 32" screen format as anything larger would not fit. After doing weeks of research it came down to this LG or the Samsung LN32C350. I found the picture quality to be almost identical and the price was the same for both, $399.00. I chose the LG because I got 10% off with a online coupon and no tax and free shipping from another online retailer. I couldn't be happier! This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The TV is fantastic!, picture is bright, sharp, clear and gorgeous. The contrast ratio listed here is wrong though...it's not 50,000:1...it's actually 70,000:1...which is even better. I love the remote, easy to use menu and all the functions and options you can tweak. it's such an unbelievable difference seeing TV shows and movies in Hi Def. I can't comment on the sound as I have the TV speakers turned off because I have a pretty kick-ass surround sound system. I am A Dish Network subscriber and have it hooked to my VIP612 receiver and am loving it...also finally able to play my Xbox 360 in Hi Def and that is Da Bomb too!...BF:BC2 looks amazing! I was debating whether to get a 1080p or a 720p TV for a long time...then I found out (which I didn't realise) all HD TV signals...OTA (over the air), DirecTv, Cable, Dish Network are all broadcast in 720p/1080i...and since I don't watch blu-ray movies...spending extra money on a 1080p set just wouldn't make sense...also...on a TV 32" or less..the benefits of watching in 1080p are negligible. 720p looks phenomenal! It has a 1 year parts and labor warranty, and after you register it with LG you can extend your warranty by 2 years for $48...provided you do it in the 1st 180 days after purchase, so altogether you get a 3 year warranty for $48...from the manufacturer...not some 3rd party outfit, that's pretty good...I'll be doing that b4 my 180 days are up. I can't recommend this TV more...I am now an LG fanboy.

I'm a college student who had a budget of about 500 dollars to spend on TV. I always wanted a 32" samsung television because I have always heard great things about their quality and performance. I limited my search to just samsung. The best I could do was the Samsung LN32C350, which is a great tv if you are utilizing it just for just watching television and movies but I'm an avid gamer. The minute i popped in call of duty I realized that picture was beautiful but the motion blur and motion artifacting were to much to bare. On top of that a dead pixel appeared on the screen within 2 days of purchase so i returned it. This was a blessing in disguise because a few days later,I opened my search to more brands and I found this LG which was a little over my budget but had everything i was looking for:
Pros:(not in order)
1. 120hz which offers smooth motion and very little motion artifacting, you can also adjust the judder and motion blur to your liking
2. 1080p full HD
3. Netcast which is great addition that allows you to stream full Hd movies, youtube videos and your netflix instant queue
4. 2.4ms response time which is relatively good for gaming
5. Beautiful picture which should be a given nowadays
6. 24 month 0% financing
7. Numerous options in adjusting picture
8: 4 hdmi, 2 component, 2 usb ports, and 2 av
Cons:
1: Stand is kinda a pain to assemble
2: Standard definition tv could look a little better
3: not that energy efficient(but does have an energy saving mode)
4: Sound is average
5: Hard to notice unless your looking for it but when 120hz is enabled on high there is haloing effect around fast moving objects not a real concern because almost every 120hz lcd tv that i have seen has some sort of picture distortion such as this
Ive only had it a few days but it has impressed me so much that i need to tell everyone about it. This is the second LG tv that my family and I have purchased(47LH90) and so far they provide a quality product that can be compared to the top brands today. Amazon offers this for $579 which is more then $200 off its regular price. If your looking for the biggest bang for your buck, I believe that this is what you are looking for.

I got it to be able to fall asleep - my wife wants to watch/listen to TV while falling asleep, but I keep getting annoyed by the much louder commercials. The Auto Volume Level II does its thing - commercials are no longer louder than regular programs, so I assume it works for your action scenes as well.
TV pic is fine, w/HD looks super nice of course. Lots of inputs, I need a long ethernet cable now so I can try out connecting it to the internet. Very excited...

This is a great tv. we use it in our master bedroom. Has all the features I wanted. We have dropped cable tv except for basic cable. I use my computer to connect the tv to my netflix account. After returning 3 HDTVs (Samsung, Sharp and Sanyo) I'm sooooo happy with this one. A perfect picture and great sound. I barely have to raise the sound to hear it, which is a problem with many other HDTVs. There's no distortion of the images and the color is perfect. I was almost going to buy a 22-inch model, but it looked small in the store, so I went for the 26-inch and I'm glad I did. A good size if you're about 10' away from the set. The on-screen menu is a little difficult to figure out ... but once you get the hang of it ... it's ok. A definate buy at a very good price. Also, it's always good dealing with Amazon - trustworthy, efficient, competitive pricing and good quality products.

I purchased two LG televisions. Within a month one had to be shipped to LG for service for vibrating speakers. Not long after, the 52 inch had to be serviced due to poor picture and over heating. Then the smaller one needed a new remote sensor. Soon after the remote sensor in the 52" went out and was fixed. Now both remote sensors have gone out again and even with an extended warranty purchased through LG, they will not cover any more repairs because the cost of repairing exceeds the TV value, but they won't replace the TV either. I wrote to the CEO of LG USA nearly a month ago. Still no reply. I would guess LG has a bunch of bad remote sensors out there. I am now filing a complaint with my state consumer affairs department.

When i first got the tv i really liked the way it looked and it was very easy to put together and set up. It worked great for me the first week, i only had an Xbox 360 hooked up to it and it was one of the best pictures ive ever seen but after that first week i had a lot of problems with it. According the HD Techs they had to replace the main board because i was having picture and sound quality issues and also replace the keypad and then even after they made those repairs the components seemed to brake. My 360 wouldnt even bring a picture or make sound on the tv b/c it didnt pick up any signal. So now i have to wait even longer for another Tech to come out and replace the components.

Wow is all I can say, I have a small living room and this 40 inch is amazing. Looked at a bunch in this size range and nothing beat it for clarity options and the price was ok, there were cheaper but the 80000-1 contrast sold me, the others had all the same stuff mostly but this one had this and more HDMI connections and my games are rocking on it. Cant go wrong in my opinion and when i move this is bedroom bound and ill get the 46 or larger version of this guy for sure.

They called the day before delivery to confirm their delivery date, then they called on the delivery date to confirm a two hour delivery period. The gentlemen who delivered the TV took it out of the box, set the TV up and disposed of the box. Top notch service. The TV picture and sound quality are outstanding. We had a 52" Samsung that we purchased for my mother-in-law. We've watched TV on it for 2 years and are extremely happy with it. For this reason, we decided to stick with Samsung. This 40" TV fits our space perfectly and after comparing a 60hz LCD HDTV side-by-side (playing the exact same nature DVD) with a 120hz, I did not notice any difference. Since the 60hz was about $150 less, I decided on this TV. We are extremely happy with it.
We only watch TV -- we don't do gaming, watch DVDs, nor do we have a Blu-Ray. So, we're pretty basic TV watchers. The picture is excellent from all viewing angles -- no distortion. My girlfriend came over 2 nights ago and wants to order a Samsung for her Mom. I don't think you can go wrong if you are basic TV watchers like us! By the way, I'm not sure if I can say this here but I priced this TV at Walmart for $674.00 online, however, through Amazon, we didn't have to pay any shipping costs nor taxes! Amazon, by far, had the least expensive price over Best Buy, Walmart and any other online merchant. The delivery guys took the TV out of the box, set it up and made sure it did turn on. They were great. Getting it to sync up with Dish TV and the Dish Remote was another matter but 2 phone calls to Dish was all it took. We had it up and running in an hour or so. Excellent buying experience!
